They use any type of mold. Place a piece of waxed paper in the mold add wax. Then remove and package and ship.

It like waxing a tooth in gold you build up the part the cover with a dental paste cure

then cast and you part

The wax rings are molded in a soft plastic mold, which was itself blow molded to the desired shape and depth. the mold for a wax ring is shipped with the wax ring inside of the box sent to a retailer. It is only demolded by the plumber who is installing the ring as it is installed.

the best bet for making a mold is to buy a wax ring, open the box, and take the plastic mold to a blow molding manufacturer and ask how much a similar item would cost per thousand, it should cost practically nothing per piece once the set up and lot size are accounted for.

Hope this helps,

-Mike

Hello joabrodas,

You could try a silicone rubber mold and place your wax paper on top while still hot. The "stuff" (tech term) acts much like bee's wax (and may bee;-) and that does not take real high heat to melt. Cool in chilled water and pop it out. The molds should last a long time if no abused.

hi brad, thanks a lot for your advice, the ring wax will have a plastic flange,so there is no way to put a wax paper, about the silicon rubber mould should be a very thin wall ,correct? so i can peel it easealy, the wax ring is very soft.

thank for your comment

best regards,joab

If you check with the silicon rubber suppliers for molds they can tell you what the optimum thickness is. How I used to make them is in a container for support. I was working with two part plastics. The exothermic chemical reaction was possibly hotter than your wax will be. Our molds were complex so we split the mold to extract the part. The container aligned the mold parts.

If you use a container shaped to fit your ring plus the optimum mold thickness your heat will cool the wax faster and not wear so fast. Splits can be added to help extraction but unless they go all the way across the mold are best molded in with the split ending in a small rounded ending |-----o to keep the splits from propagating over time.

Glad to be of help

Brad
