Hi, I have a 2000 Mazda 626 GXI, between 50 - 60 mph, the transmission gives a fault on the dashboard, after 60 mph its fine could it be the speed sensor?
There are only two type of speed sensor currently used on car, inductive and hall effect, they are normally easy to tell apart. Inductive speed sensors only require two wires as they only consist of a coil wound around a magnet. Hall effect sensors require a supply, ground and output connections. Dont be fooled though some of our inductive sensors also have a screen around the cables, with neither of the other cables going to ground. A quick test of resistance across an inductive speed sensor will normally give an indication of weather it will work or not (900ohms, plus or minus 100ohms, give of take a bit). Also check it is not loose as this moves the magnet away from the disc, or cog it is collecting its information from. Hall effect sensors are a little different and will take more explaining, and you would normally require a scope to test it.
