10/13/2008 2:51 AM

Hi,

Could anyone please tell me where I can find tables for motor demand factors in order to size the MCC panel feeder ?

Thanks.

Well, they could be created by studying the specific installation drawings and looking at the usage characteristics or predictions.

thanks for your reply, but aren't there any guidelines for these factors, any average values from any standard?

There are no "written guidelines" because every location is different. You must do the load calculations to determine the required panel size. The NEC provides section 220 to apply when making these calculation. If you are in another location, apply the codes for that area. If you are the designer, then you should know whether the motors will have any diversity or not.

Thanks for your reply, section 220 in the NEC provides the calculation for lighting & receptacles circuits and their demand factors, but it didn't mention anything about motor branch circuits, however, section 430.26 mentions that the demand factor for motors feeders are based on experience and historical information from similar installations. In our project we follow the NEC but I need any guidelines from any other specifications as I do not have any information about our installation.

From my information, the demand factor is a multiplication of two factors. The utilization factor (because motors are rarely operated at their full load) this factor is usually from 0.75 to 0.8.

The other factor is the simultaneity factor (if the motors are not operated together at the same time).I have no idea about the range of this factor so I need any guidelines from any specifications.

The best bet, then, is to find a Mentor at the facility who can help further.
