Dear Buddy,

While supporting for reduce the friction factor we can use Graphite as well as teflon plates what is reason behind that it will depend upon pipe temp or what?

Thanks

Graphite is used as a solid lubricant because the alotropic form of carbon in grafite has weak connections in its cristaline structure between high density atomic planes, alowing it to be easily sheared (an thus graphite is easily broken - even by hand). Teflon is used sometimes because it has self-lubricating features, I'm not sure exactly what is the mechanism behind it.

But what's your problem? What do you need to lubricate? For high temperatures or high loads, there are a world of lubricants that can be used. Even animal fat can be used as extreme pressure lubrication...

Thanks for your mail.

I am a stress engineer, while putting support in existing structural steel we can use Stanchion and Shoe type supports while using this type support my one my collegue told me that temp 450f below we can use teflon plate below the shoe and beyond 450f we can use graphite type slide plate. My question is temperature will make differance or what?

thanks
