Tide times

10/16/2008 12:16 PM

The higest monthly tides in my city are always at 8.00 but why? Is it true for all places? Who can give me the simplest explanation that would be suitable for an average high school student?

Because that's when they measure the tide?

The tides are influenced by the moon. Maybe that's the time at which it's closest to your city.

The moon is not the only celestial body in our solar system that effects the tides.

What celestial body do we base time on? It is the position of that body at 8:00 helping the moon that causes these higher tides.

Clearly highest tides are when the sun and moon are in conjunction but why does the time for this never vary is the solar system so exactly geared.
