H-TYPE BEAMS

10/20/2008 9:26 PM

Dear Friends,

In one of our stuctural projects I encountered this H300 and H600 beams.

Kindly help me in finding specifications eg. dimensions and weight for these beams.

Thanks very much.

Sorry friend,

My manual of steel construction does not show an H shape of beams.

It does show W shapes

M shapes

S shapes

and HP shapes

American standard channels (C)

Miscellaneous Channels (MC)

ans Angles (L)

but nothing described as H300 or H600.

There are two specifications: HEA and HEB, which type you used?

HEA :web 290x flange 300/web 9x flange 14

HEB: web 300x flange 300/web 11x flange 19

Nevermind, the following site contains a free down software which will help you in finding any dimensions, weights for structural steel sections, pipes fittings, flanges, piping design for expansion loops, and more ang more.

Site : PipeData-PRO Software Informer: Latest version download

Software Free Download for 30 days: Download PipeData-PRO

Another site : TWI Software PipeData-PRO

Here is a manufacturer that provides some dimensional data:

http://www.metricmetal.com/products/wflah.htm

You could probably contact them for the standards they manufacture to.

They should be( W then a number and then another number ) the first number means the hight or distance between the outside of the two flanges for instance 24. The second number is the weight per foot such as 86. The W stands for wide flange angles so this beam would be called a W24x86. Now you can go to a steel book and look up this beam and find out all of the sizes and measurments you could want. If they get too big they will have to be made in a shop out of plate and are commonly called plate girts and the web will be full penatration welded to the flanges. I hope I have answered your question.
