A gravity feed system has the oil reservoir above the mechanical system and drips lubricant by gravity. A force feed system uses a pump to spray oil onto the moving parts, while splash lubrication stores the oil in a sump below the moving parts. As the system mves, part of it will dip into the oil and splash it around, lubricating the mechanism.

sorry to touch off on a tangent but do you know where the term "Thats the real Mccoy" comes from.

It has to do with automatic lubrication.

Sounds like the 1st paragraph of the "lubrication" chapter in any number of Machine Design textbooks.

Is this homework?

hi Paul,

It would be good to know where you are and the relationship you have to the need.

The maintenance has many pot holes that will need to be understood and at times did he do it is just one of them...one plant two requirements for the same ..one works well the other a problem.

Tell us more of where you would like to use them.
