You must know the load in kw and the power factor.

KVA = kw/pf. KVAR = sqrt(KVA² - KW²)

Kvar is the reactive component of the AC inductive circuit,i.e the lower the power factor the higher the Kvar and vice versa.

KVA X cos.= KW ( usefull power )

KVA X Sin = Kvar ( Reactive . useless power)

We try to maintain higher PF(lower kvar) to improve power utilization efficiency

e.g at 50% PF the efficiency of power utilization is 50 % the rest is reactive(kvar) but the consumer will pay for 100%
