AVR power output and enrgy efficiency/savings issue

10/26/2008 8:46 AM

Dear expert,

I a running two 350 kVA Volvo generator set in Parallel, why the AVR output giving two different reading one is -9.8 and the other was 7.5 while they are sharing equally on load?

In terms of energy efficiency and or energy savings as what my readings are:

total Kw: 141

total kVAr: 58

pf: 0.95 lag

kW: 44%

1. Do i still require to install Power factor corrector?

2. Do I need to install kVAr energy controller or is it advisable?

your comments and advise are highly appreciated.

Kind regards

Hello Roman,

What do you mean by AVR output ? -9.8 and 7.5....

AVR controls voltage which in turn will determine the KVAr sharing..

What is Kvar sharing of each generator? Is it same? Is pf of both gens same?

These inputs will be required to pinpoint the problem..

cheers.

Hi Chaterpillar,

Thanks for your reply, AVR output is the reading that appear on the DSE 5510 module, the kVar sharing of this two generator is the same both 50% as well as the power factor. correct me if i'm wrong since that the power factor lag shows 0.95% is that clearly mean that it is not necessary to install power factor corrector?

Thanks for your reply

0.95 lag is very good.I don't think u need to add any energy controller. The cost and resulting saving may not work out economically.
