There are several reference books; "Aluminum Standards and Data" published by The Aluminum Association is a good one. Another that I use is the old "Alcoa Aluminum Handbook", published by Alcoa Aluminum and there is always the Metals Handbook volume, "Heat Treating", published by ASM International.

There may be several sites on the web (like matweb) that might also be helpful.

If you have a specific alloy in mind, I'll be glad to provide the recommended heat treatment.

I am told it is a 7068 Material and the parts are .501 thick and the other .255 thick.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, this alloy is not included in the reference books I have. It was developed as a high strength alternative to 7075, primarily for ordnance applications. It's covered by AMS (Aerospace Material Specification) 4331 for chemical composition and mechanical properties and by AMS 2772 for heat treatment. The standard supply temper is T6511 but for applications requiring greater resistance to stress corrosion cracking, T76511 is available (see www.smithshp.com).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Good luck.

You will need to purchase a book, like something here:

http://books.google.com/books?ct=title&lr=&q=heat+treating+aluminum&btnG=Search+Books

You may also find some of these in the library.

Most times the manufacturer of your particular alloy will provide heat treating information.
