Jib Boom Motors

10/29/2008 10:52 PM

Hi,

I`m currently working on a DIY jib boom for my video cam. I want to make the camera pan and tilt. Anyone have any suggestions as to what motors I could use that aren`t that expensive yet give good results? also they should work on 12V dc as I`m using a deep cycle battery as a counterweight.

thanks in advance

There is a moderately priced remote controlled spot light sold under the name of

Go-Light. It is designed to be mounted on the roof of a car or truck and remotely controlled by a wire pendant, or a wireless controller. It is 12 volt powered, and a nice product for the money. If you mount your camera to the top of the spotlight, it should work fine for you. They are sold through the NAPA chain of auto parts stores. or on line NAPAprolink.com. Good luck.

You can find some nice stepper motors in old printers, especially the old dot-matrix types.

Try small windscreen wiper motors. Reliable , strong and already geared down. Available at any wrecking yard!!

You might consider a power mirror base, harness, and switch from a late model (wrecked) car.
