About CAT Tool holders

Why every CAT tool holders has a hole depth 0.38mm at the side of tool holder?

You maybe referring to the hole that is used in the fixturing to lock the tool in order to change the cutting tool.

Because the two sides are not the same. One is shorter then the other, without the hole, you can't tell out to load the tool in the chain....
