Can anybody tell me what's process of arc quenching in circuit Breaker

hi,

Quenching of arc is between the Fixed and Moving Contact of the Circuit Breaker with medium of quencing being Sulphur Hexa Flouride, Air, Oil or vaccum. The arc forms between the MC & FC and quenched by the extnuighing medium.

Thanks for ur answer,but exactly i want to know the details of it...like the reaction between the MC & FC ........the amount of mmf required to close the contacts...how the arc is quenched in the dielectric when two contacts are seperated.......the capacity of the contacts for withstand the MMF specially for closing

Arcing inside a switching device, designed to interrupt the current flow, is very bad. The temperature climbs very quickly and the ionized air (and other gas, like vaporized metals) tends to maintain the current flow.

I've seen tests where the arc suppressor was intentionally removed and tested under a highly inductive load. The arc blew the door off the steel panel. Don't underestimate the power of the arc!!!
