A hydraulic motor is a device where you put flow in and get rotary motion (there are linear motors but they are very specialized and probably beyond your homework question) out. A hydraulic pump is a device where you put motion in and get fluid pressure and flow out.

Slightly off topic and definitely not a good answer, BUT. I have herd that some hyd motors (I suppose positive displacement) can be used as pumps and vise versa???

By writing this I probably deserve a "dumb question vote", but I seem to remember a discussion regarding this years ago.

Yes. Not usually very efficient, but certainly doable.
