Find out what 16mm is in decimal inches and convert the decimal inches to mm.

16 gauge what?

This link gives (imperial) thicknesses for 3 types of sheet metal.

Then again there's AWG, SWG ...

This link gives steel wire gauges in mm. Quite a variation, don't you think?

This link gives steel, galvanized steel and aluminum gauges in inches.

Here is more info on sheet metal which you may have wanted to know but were afraid to ask.

1" is the dividend & gauge number is the divisor

gauge 16 means 1 inch divided by 16

1" = 25.4mm, so, 25.4/16 = 1.5875mm.

the bigger the gauge number, the smaller the size.

gauge number of a tie wire means the diameter of the tie wire.

gauge number of metal sheet means the thickness of the sheet.

gauge number of filter fabric or sieve means the opening of the fabric or sieve.

Nice idea, but it doesn't square with results from the links in posts #2 & #3.

I doubt that, as your formula don't fit for other gauges.

assuming that we are talking about SWG. 14gauge is about 2.03 mm and 18Gauge is 1.22, But if I use this formula I am getting 25.4/14 = 1.81mm and 25.4/18= 1.41 respectively. And this even fit for AWG.
