requirement of nipple

11/04/2008 2:26 AM

In one of the PMS for refinery there is no nipple . Why? Details : 150 RF , Titanium , 0 mm corrosion allowance , pipe material is ASTM B861 Gr 2 , Flange is ASTM B363-WPT2/B381-F2 , Temp. & Pr. limits of spec are (-29 C to 45 C ) & ( 1585 to 1554 KpaG ) , Service is Sodium Hypochlorite . Refinery at Canada. Note : We can use nipple in place of pipe to avoid labour cost & to save time so every spec should use nipple .

Sachin,

I think one part of the to answer to your question is the material. Titanium! This material is normally all Butt Welded. You did not say but I would guess that you only have Butt Weld fittings in this Piping Material Specification (PMS).

The second part of the answer to your question is that a "Nipple" is nothing more than a short piece of pipe. You just buy titanium pipe in what ever size you need and then cut it to the length you want.

This is part of the learning process.
