Polar-Mohr Guillotine

11/04/2008 10:07 AM

I am trying to obtain an electrical schematic drawing & if possible a service manual for a Polar-Mohr Eltromat72 paper guillotine. I have tried the manufacturers & some agents without success. Any info would be appreciated,

Regards

Tom Sweeney

Dang, only just got rid of that one a few months ago, I'm sure it had the circuit pasted on the inside of the motor cover panel, or inside one of the detachable panels, have you looked there?

Hello Tom Sweeney

Have you tried the Agents:

Web: www.millersg.ie

If it may help the Company Directors of Polar-Mohr are:

Alfred Henschel & Michael Neugart

A suggestion, is to visit the Polar-Mohr site. They have a section where you can get info on machines that are not that much different to the one you have. I have worked on polar machines which were 20 years apart. But, the setting up of the auto-cut was virtually identical. So you do not necessarily need a Manual for your machine. If the set up and cutting procedure is what you want to know any machine made before about 2000 will be similar. And if you can get a Manual whether it is for a more modern machine or not, it will also explain how to change the blade.

I would go through the procedure a couple of times without the 'real' blades, perhaps use a wooden mock-up. That way you can't damage yourself or the pretty sharp and quite delicate blade edges.

One is called the info' shop and you can get machine catalogues of the Polar 78. Another part of the site is Customer Services. They offer Training for not just new machines but older ones as well. Regarding the setting up of the auto-cutting, where the back of the machine moves to the next cut automatically. I set my Polar up with no instructions by trial and error I cannot recall any detail of how you change the blade precisely but, there was a couple of holders which you could bolt to the blade with knurled hand-holds with threads on. but, any more than that I cannot recall, sorry.

http://www.polar-mohr.com/beitrag_en_2875.html Customer Services

http://www.polar-mohr.com/infomaterial/index_en.html Info

I hope you find this helpful. I also hope you find what you are looking for!

I am looking for other schematic diagrams for someone else and have had some sucess. I will look for the schematics for your machine also.

Hello Tom Sweeney:

I thought it more than likely you may have tried all I mentioned, but I just want to help.

Can you tell me why you want a schematic? I know things have changed since I was last using a Polar but, I would imagine a qualified Electronics Engineer would soon find his way round any parts of any circuits you can see. I realise they may have Integrated circuits now. But it depends on what part of the machine you want the schematic for? Most of the electrics and or electrics are pretty heavy duty. And anything you find that may not work properly can be disconnected and replaced.

Anyway, good luck..........

Good Day Babybear,

Thank you for your reply.

I had a problem with the clutch / brake operation, which I think we have now sorted. However there are a number of PCB's in a rack under the front of the machine and also a control PCB in the motor control box with the keyswitch for starting. It would obviously make fault finding a bit easier & quicker if I knew what pcb's controlled what and also of course plug/socket connections.

Regards,

Tom Sweeney

Hello Tom,

just a thought.........I have been looking through the Polar Mohr years in history.

As you can see in 1971 a guillotine was designed to be connected to a tester or 'computer'. Have you seen any socket on your that may when connected to a computer, if it is possible, with give read-out of the various blockes of IC's?

1972
First cutter with electronic limitation of backgauge movement

Hello Print:

Have just noticed your post. I have PM'ed Tom Sweeney and have been trying to help. I wrote a letter to the Directors of POLAR-mohr. Only a day ago.

Has Tom been in touch with you about this post? Because, if you were able to copy either the Manual, and or any schematics, mainly regarding the general ins and outs of the Electrics, and what the PCB's operate specifically, I know that is what he is after. If that was possible and you could send them by email or something?

Thank you for posting!

any help is appreciated.

Thanks

UPDATE: anyone wondering what code 29 on a polar 76em means - it is a stuck key, apparently.

Hi,

Do you have any knowledge of the wohlenberg 115 MCS -2 TV cutter?

I'm a maintenance tech @ a printing company in wisconsin and have kept up with the repairs on our cutters up to this point, This one is pressing on me hard!...........

I've been struggling for a clue to narrow down the problem of "no contactor action" on my knife's magnetic clutch contactors K50 and K51. there ok on knife change. safety bolt is releasing. spending hours looking for a test that will give me clue as to whats missing. thanks! martybritz

Board 22 controls the backgauge. It is possible that this resistor is part of the backgauge brake control. All Polar CE series guillotines use the same electronics.

My other cutters are not CE series, they are EL series, and I

physically check to see, and they are different electronics.

Yes, board 22 is the relay board for the back-gauge, and the back-gauge is dead.

No movement.

Troubleshooting in the blind is a real PIA, but doable, if you have any

suggestions please let me know.

This is a back-up machine, so I have time to fix her.

Hello CrawPrint:

Those picture may help the OP. I have written to Polar and am waiting for a reply. If they send a schematic I will pass it on.

Ref' the back-guage, is it a 'wired' thing or a proper big chunky IC?

I can check on-line if you give the details, year, model, etc.?

Take care............

the year, I'm not sure.

Polar-Mohr Eltromat72

I was drawn to this post originally because I regnised the Guillotine as the one very like the one I last worked on. I have sort of lost the thread now, because I was helping someone on another post. Do you have a handbook and or a schematic for this machine please?

I wrote to Polar just over a week ago I think it was and am waiting for an answer.

Take care............

drop me your email address. I will scan the relevant pages from my service information and send them through. * It sounds most likely that board 22 is dead. There is an scr on the board you may want to check it. Yes EL and CE guillotines are very different electrically. The EL was taken out of production in 1971, the CE began in late 1971 and stopped in 1979 it was replaced by the EMC series.

Just read previous comments regarding Electromat 72, and think you may be able to help me. I'm trying to identify a burnt out component on circuit board 015086 - it is located second down from the top of the board in the centre horizontally. Will this be the reason why the machine will do nothing at all? If you could forward me a circuit diagram it would be most helpful. My email address is

Hello Tom,

I hope you are fine.................

I am writing to ask if you have had any useful help from anywhere on the IC's on the Guillotine?

I want to write to Millers but won't if you have dealt with that side of things.

I must say I am very disappointed at the lack of response from POLAR Mohr themselves.

Take care and have a wonderful holiday...............

I just wanted to let you know I got it fix and working with PRINT'S help. Thank again.

The transistor on the power board #3 was bad and not giving 25 volts.(control voltage)

I replaced both transistors while I was at it, I now had the 25volts, and it worked.

The resistor on board 22 is the charge resistor, for the stop capacitor.

With this resistor burnt out, the backgauge would overrun its marks.

I put a 400ohm 10watt in there and it seems to work just fine.

Bruce

PS. the operator asked me what was wrong with it, and I told him

the power board had some burnt out components on it, and he said

"It stopped working right after the lights dimmed and all the

computers crashed"

Wish I had know this little bit of information from the start. ARGGGG

Looking for the same info. Moved and cant find our manual and wiring diagram. (As soon as I find I will scan and post)

My problem is that I moved the cutter from a shop with 3 phaze to a shop without 3 phaze. Hav a phaze converter hooked up but motor will try to work then blow breaker. If I start the cutter and give the motor some help at startup, it will work fine. Any Ideas?

Thanks Jerry

Hello Guest,

You should join you sound a helpful bloke?

I can't give any detailed info on 3 phase as I am not an Electrician. It might pay you to PM someone with Electrician in the user-name? Or you could start by joining Always best, and asking your own question, as it is only related to this thread because you are talking about handbooks and Guillotines?

Ask a more specific question on your own thread and I am sure someone will help you. 3 Phase electrics is just not understandable to me. Ask a question and you will automatically get your own thread. BTW where are you? Country?

Good luck and, say hello if you join and request help, OK?

Take care and have a wonderful holiday.........................

Jerry,

Sounds like your phase converter in NOT working, and the motor is getting only single phase.

Check your connections.

Did you buy or build the converter.

The chap I was helping and who I wrote to Polar Mohr on behalf of is in Ireland.

He thought there was something wrong with the IC's but found it was binding brakes which was the problem.

I got no answer from Polar Mohr which is what I half expected, as they are more interested in selling thousands of new machines than helping with 40 year old ones!

As most of the members here are from the US the site you list will be pretty helpful to them. And I will let the OP (Original Post) know this other site is available to help. He buys and sells second/5th.........hand print finishing machines.

Take care and welcome! I am just another adviser, like yourself, and because I was in the print finish trade for about 10 years I actually used the machine he was looking for help with, so got a little more involved than usual.

Have a great new year................

Hello Spearco58,

Did you get your Phase convertor problem sorted? As a previous poster suggested you may have a faulty convertor. Have you checked across the output phases for the correct output, that you actually have all 3 phases? Check across phases 1 & 2, 1 & 3 and 2 & 3 with a multimeter, not a phase tester. If you have all 3 phases then check they are correct at the motor terminals, just in case something got disconnected in the move. If you have all phases at the motor you could have a winding down in the motor. You may already know this, if so, forgive me. If you do not have the correct output from the convertor your only soloution would be to return it for replacement.

If you still have a problem come back to me with the info on the convertor,ie make, model etc. & I might be able to help out there.

Regards

Tom Sweeney

The thing to understand when using a single phase to three phase converter is that the single phase voltage that is applied to the input terminals of the unit is the same voltage that you will get on the output terminals but across three phases. ie; 110 volt single phase in will give you 110 volts three phase out. Therefore check the motor terminal cover and see if changing the terminal links will allow you to apply a lower three phase voltage. Also remember, depending on the guillotine, there are three motors.

I am assuming that your single phase voltage is 110 volts. In New Zealand we operate a 230 volt single phase system and 400 volt three phase.

Hi Persia,

Thanks for that, I got the problem sorted earlier. I'm not sure if your 155 is anyway the same as the Eltromat 72 I was working on so I don't think they would help me.

Regards

Tom

Persia, I am looking for an electrical schematic for our Polar-Mohr EL 115. Do you still have the prints?

You will get less and less help from Polar about the older machine, its the only way they can sell new ones, by removing them from the secondhand line..

I have diagrams for a few El with the coloured plugs most of the polar Ce and a few Ce secondhand boards (not forsale), which we use for testing faults with and repairing cards when they are sent to us.. biggest problem is the size of the diagrams on earlyier machines.. and a red shaded to make copying a pain.

Over the years Polar faults normally are the same thing on most of the versions types.

On the Ce machine we fitted lots of New Repro-gram programatic units, getting rid of the older tape program..We can interface on the Ce 92 and larger versions quite easliy without changing any wiring, too be honest its easyier to sell a program than a complete machine if its working ok!

If i can help anyone close to the Uk then send me an email.

morning

i'm wondering if you can help - we have a polar mohr 76EM that is popping shear bolts - just as the blade contacts the paper - we have readjusted blade for contact - but bolts are breaking at the top of the cut - so - i'm thinking that something is binding up - no manual addressing this issue - any clues on where to look or how to call - we're in the mid-west USA

tks for your time

You'll get more answers if you post your own thread instead of asking your question on somebody else's thread that was started in 2008.

From the home screen, click the ask a question button on the upper right, and ask away.
