Unlocking a Mobile Phone

11/05/2008 12:33 PM

Hi,

I have a nokia 3110c, locked to orange, and tried to unlock it using unlocking codes, which didn't work. Is there any way to keep the same phone, but to change provider, say to O2? Also, if applicable, do you know what Nokia would charge to have it unlocked?

thanks

Is it a phone under contract or did you buy it? if the contract allows you to change to another provider than Nokia should unlock it free of charge IMO

"Pay as you go" means a complete phone without contract? then you should go to Argos and complain that they sold you a locked phone

I still do not know what "pay as you go" means.

anyway if there is a contract, that would mean that after a few years the phone is yours and they should unlock it for you.

'Pay as you go' means there is no contract, you buy the phone, usually locked to one mobile operator, then top up the credit with vouchers, in-store payments or credit card payments as often as you need to. The advantage is that there are no minimum monthly payments, the disadvantage is that you don't get any of the packaged deals.

I've unlocked Nikia phones before using the codes but I believe some phones need to be unlocked using a data lead & software. Many phone shops offer this service & the going rate around here is £10 a time.
