1ppm from a meter= 1:1000 from a mm

The meter a unit not yet well known in some western countries although introduced about 200 yeras ago and part of the ISO system.

The basic technical system of units being the MKS which means :

meter for length

kilogram for mass and

s for second.

All other mechanical units are derived frm those.

The meter is well known in the USA, we just don't use it much due to being heavily indoctrinated to using the foot of some dead king as our basis and not being forced into making the change in thinking! Also, all legal transactions with real estate are stuck with feet, rods, chains, acres, of measurement that the lawyers don't want to change.
