The .bin is probably a binary file. You will need the application that created it to make any changes.

Hello Guest,

you are correct, it is a Binary file. And needs a .cue file to open. That is info from the web anyway.

Try the following site for programs that may have created those extensions:

Hello zohaibmoazzam:

I found this in the .bin files. Hope it helps......

Then you would simply open Nero or other burning program that supports .bin images and burn from there. Also, with daemon-tools it's possible to mount it as a virtual CD ROM without even burning it, this is useful for testing to ensure an image actually works, before burning it and realize you just made a coaster.

But like mentioned, .bin files are not for a single purpose. CD images is one of them, but so is other things such as game roms and such. Mame is a good example of an emulator that uses .bin files.

.bin files have too many uses to list them all but CD images and ROMs seem to be the two biggest users. AVG (and possibly other Avs) use them, windows uses them (ex: mib.bin which appears to be for SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol). I even found a bin file in my printer's driver directory. So they're used pretty much everywhere and can be looked at in the same way as a file with no extension, which has multiple purposes. The main reason each program won't just come up with their own is probably to avoid using extensions that are used by other programs. So "less important" binary files are usually just named .bin to avoid hassle.

There's not much more to say about these files unless I start covering every single use, so I will end the article here. I hope it cleared things up on what .bin files do.

Hello bwire,

First off, I copied only part of the info on what a .bin file is. So I then sent a full copy of the article which explains these details and what it is and what it can do and, how to open it, please see below.

I then had a fit and went to bed.

Have been back an hour or so now after my kip/zzz and that..........aaarrrhhh? Oh well!

I have since found the details of how to open and read a .bin file.......If it makes any sense after opening, is another question! And it is a Binary file

There are a few widely used utilizations for .bin files. One of them is CD images. It is similar to an ISO image. Usually a .bin file will also require a .cue file that goes with it. Programs such as Alcohol 120%, ISO Buster, Nero (etc) can open these. The cue file is usually very simple and can be created by entering the following in a .cue file.

FILE "C:\locationoffile.bin" BINARY TRACK 01 MODE1/2352 INDEX 01 00:00:00

I appreciate the emoticon after your remark, but did not see it for perhaps six or more hours?.

The .up is an

Unknown Apple II File (found on Golden Orchard Apple II CD Rom)

I think the original poster should perhaps get in touch with Golden Orchard?

take care my friend

Hello zohaibmoazzam:

This is the full info' in .bin files and how to open them. On my previous post I failed to copy all the details. So here they are now. Sorry.

What are .bin files for?
The mystery solved, well sort of.
By Red Squirrel

This is a very brief article but this has been an issue that baffles allot of people, so figured I'd do a quick write up on it to clear things up a bit on what .bin files are.

Bin files, unlike other files such as .exe, .wpd, .doc, .xls etc don't have an actual program used to open them specifically. A .bin file is sort of a universal file for binary file. So it can be anything from a rom for an emulator, to image/sound data for a game.

There are a few widely used utilizations for .bin files. One of them is CD images. It is similar to an ISO image. Usually a .bin file will also require a .cue file that goes with it. Hello Bricktop:

I thank for your kind remarks. I still have nothing to say anything I have posted is of use to the original thread poster though?

I had an hours sleep and got up to take a tablet and a coffee and was awake, so I came back on-line. Not sure how long I can last with just four hours sleep in the past two days? My mind will not stand still!

My fingers and wrists are hurting with all the typing. I am not after GA's, but, they show I am relied on and trusted to a degree I suppose. It show I am doing something right? I try anyway.

Be nice if the GA is a Gold Medal? Maybe too much to ask for?

Hello bricky,

A lot of leg work? Yes, and for a total waste of space. I have not the slightest interest to see what is inside a single solitary Binary code file. But it seems all my work was for nothing. I guess I knew it would be in the end.

As I tried to explain looking at the contents of a single.bin file, is like looking at a digit from a language you have never seen before, and asking what does that sentence mean? his attitude stinks. I am sorry to say that but it does. Why not learn VB or whatever you need to do to learn what is in a single .bin file. It is of no consequence at all.

The best was when he asked if he could send me an email with the file in to sort out for him! I think it may just have been homework? If it was and he still can't do it? Even if my explanation was crap..............it was not me that had the 'interest' in it.

See you for now my friend............

Hello bricky,

just thought I would pass on my 'wisedom' or maybe not?

I have used my wireless keyboard so much over the last few weeks, it was warning me to charge it again. I have just realised I have been laying it in the charger, THE WRONG WAY ROUND, hence no charge, it is no wonder it is flat! Duuurrr, wake up and smell the coffee john!

Re: *.up and *.bin Extension Files

Hello zohaibmoazzam:

This may be more helpful for .bin (binary files. But I cannot find anything to do with .up files.

I have copied this from http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/881/how-do-i-open-or-mount-a-bin-file-without-a-cue-file/

It may help. Can you try it and tell me please?

You just create a text file that is named the exact same thing as your bin file except with a cue extension. In this text file you need this information:

    FILE "yourbinfilenamehere.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

Step-by-step:

Say you have a file called gameiso.bin 1. Right click on a blank space in the same folder
    2. Select new text document
    3. Double click to open your New Text Document.txt
    4. Paste this into the file:
    FILE "gameiso.bin" BINARY
    TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00 Make sure you edit gameiso.bin to the exact name of your bin file. 5. Click File menu
    6. Click Save
    7. Click the Red X to close it
    8. Right click the New Text Document.txt and select Rename
    9. Rename it like your bin file except with a cue extension:
    [gameiso.cue

Hello zohaibmoazzam

can you tell me is there any other figures or letters after the '.up'. What I have so far is this is an unknown Apple II File (found on Golden Orchard Apple II CD Rom).

If you can get into any apple forum try asking there. But there are several different files with very similar names. This does not tell you how to read it but may lead to an answer from perhaps an Apple dedicated site forum or, an Official Apple help site.

Or you can try and find the publisher and site of the Golden Orchard Apple II CD Rom

Here is the list of file names starting with "UP":

Hello zohaibmoazzam:

This site uses Private Message so I will not send my email to you.

Did you go to this site and try it or not?

I have copied this from http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/881/how-do-i-open-or-mount-a-bin-file-without-a-cue-file/

I have written the instructions out differently. Try this.

Step-by-step:

Say you have a file called gameiso.bin

1.You need a text file to paste this script into.

2. Open the folder you found the .bin file.

3. Right click on a blank space in the same folder

4. Select new text document

5. Double click to open your New Text Document.txt

6. Paste this piece, here between the lines into the open Text Document.txt

FILE "gameiso.bin" BINARY
TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
INDEX 01 00:00:00

(Make sure you edit >>> gamesiso.bin <<< to the exact name of your bin file)

7. Click File menu

8. Click Save

9. Click the Red X to close the file the .bin was in.

10. Right click the New Text Document.txt and select Rename

11. Rename it like your bin file except with a cue extension: gameiso.cue

Hello zohaibmoazzam:

There is no way I can give you my email. And, I am not 'your bro'! I am your on-line friend only. And I would advice you to do as much searching and research as I do before I write in these posts.

I have explained it in such a simple way. I cannot make it easier. I do not want to see what is in a Binary code file, you do so start thinking and trying thing out until it works. If I do it, you will not have achieved anything. If you do it and find out your way, you will get a real buzz of achievement!

If you cannot actually do it using a computer, try using a Library book. I am sure there are thousands out there to tell you what is in a Binary code file.
