Anyone remember Snappy?

I have Snappy video frame capture w/software and interface--recently upgraded to XP and now cannot install software--anything available that I can download so I can use my beloved Snappy again?

Yes, nice little device for its time.

Microsoft says : http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx

to make older software work with XP.

I am CoronaCameraMan -

Check out Pinnacle which acquired Snappy several years ago. I have a Snappy yet, and it is in storage, to be scrapped.

Best Buy usually has Pinnacle in there computer department, not all there sales people know, so you may have to ask a couple times. The Pinnacle usually sells for $50-$150 for the audio-video frame grabber and software. The new frame grabbers are much better video quality at 30 frames per second.

If you are going to work with video I recommend a new Pinnacle unit.

Nero also makes some good video processing software.

Sony acquired Vegas software which is also very good for working with audio-video.

The Nero or Sony also does a great job assembling a DVD menu and making the DVD.

Microsoft has Moviemaker for download and it works with the Pinnacle frame grabber for capture and assembly of audio-video. This is what I use.

Comrad Col.

I sympathize with you - I have experienced these problems when upgrading to XP. I couldn't use my old cross assembler or wide carriage Epson ink jet. After working toward work-arounds, I realized that I could have a computer with the old operating system (NT) on the network for under $100. This let me do just about everything I needed to do with the old stuff.

You may want to look in to one of the virtualization solutions, such as VirtualBox or VMWare, which allow you to run an older operating system (and associated software) in a virtual machine on top of your "New, Improved" operating system. I still have my Snappy, although it has been so long since I have actually used it, I don't even remember which operating system I used it with...

Thanks for all the good answers--I'm not looking to make movies or transfer tapes to DVD, just had a few frames I wanted--this Toshiba comes with DVD Scrapbook, which will track homemade DVD but doesn't seem to like movies--must be some built-in copywrite protection. Anyway I'll check into some of the suggestions...

A major hitch for some older software's is the limitation imposed by the software developer not providing a patch enabling it's use with service packs 2 & 3.
