Lift Airconditioning

11/11/2008 9:58 PM

Good day to you all. Does anyone knows how to drain the condensate from lift airconditioning unit??? Since you can't have a fixed connection (lift is moving) is the condensate just free fall down to lift pit floor?? Is it safe doing this? If its ok, will proposed to add small sump pump remove the condensate from the pit..

Hello Guest,

Many such mobile air-conditioners do exactly what you say: The condensate runs out of the drain tube to free-fall into the elevator pit at the bottom of the shaft.

As that pit is at a low level, it is normal to have a sump pump operating via immersible electrodes or float switch to remove the water.

The water quantity is not large, and very small amounts of water are pumped out.

The alternative is to have the several small turns in the compressor outlet "hot pipe", with the hot pipe coil installed into a shallow pan into which the condensate drips.

Each time the compressor runs, the hot pipe coil heats up any condensate, evaporating that condensate - but there is a drain pipe into that condensate pan in case of overflow, to take the overflow water (if any) vertically past the lift cage tyo the bottom of the lift cage, and allowing the overflow condensate to fall to the pit at shaft bottom. (Much of that falling water evaporates on the way down).

As with all air-conditioners, pipework and condensate trays etc must be sterilized at least monthly, (dependent on local requirement) with a small amount of hot water/chlorine bleach mixture, to prevent growth of moulds/mildew/Legionnaires disease etc.

Kind Regards....
