WHY THE SYNCH MACHINE IS THE MOST COMMON GENERATOR?

It's simple really. For any network of generators to work together, they need to be running synchronous to each other. If they are not working together, then the "faster" ones will try to run the slower ones as motors and you end up losing power, rather than generating it and supplying to the real system load.

This also means that anything connected to the system can also "synchronise" itself to a relatively reliable signal source.

For generators as "stand alone" units, it's often acceptable for them not to be synchronous, like those running portable welding machines and isolated factories.

By the way, welcome to CR4.

You are probably needing great assistance in this matter that is beyond my general knowledge however I can make some suggestions that should help you.

Firstly there are good search engines like "google" that will give general information for you.

Then once you have that understanding, throught he same search engines look at "Westinghouse" or "Mitsubishi" as they are reputable manufacturers of good generators and will be able to give you options.

You have made one good move so far and that is to ask others for information. For such an expensive purchase it is very appropriate to research the alternatives.

Depending on th eamount of power that the system that you are building/buying is intended to supply it might also be worthwhile tolook at alternative energy systems and see how they convert the power to match the synchronous mains supply. (Look at their inverters and such, not necessarily their power source (like windmills or photovoltaic cells or water turbines)).
