Wall thickness

11/17/2008 4:37 AM

We take size of branch upto first block valve higher than the calculated minimum required thickness. Is it mandatory ? As per my understanding this is so because Pressure increases & so vibration when we go from header to branch. Pl. give more info regarding this.

Regards

Sachin

I do not think this is mandatory by any codes. I normally do this on pipelines that have allot of wear to give more corrosion/erosion allowance to what I consider to be a higher wear point at the intersection of the 2 pipes. I do this simply because it has been my experience that certain high solid services have proven to wear the intersection down more. On normal services such as water, steam, gas,air it is not helpful and a waste of money and time IMO
