simulation software

11/20/2008 5:58 PM

I am currently entertaining an idea for a science project that will use a system similar to chathod ray tubes in order to deposit a thin layer of coating on a metal surface. the system will generate a ray of posivite ions using UV light on vapour, which in turn will be accelerated by a static electrical field of charged plates. i want to find a way to experiment with different configurations using simulation software that is capable of calculating electric potential at any given point for a system of charged plates.

the advantage of this method as that it will allow the creation of a constant level of kinetic energy in the beam (just like CRT's do with electrons), rather then a multi stage, percicly calculated magnetic field like those used in particle accelerators.

can anyone advise?

This equipment can be bought in every countries, we also have lots of such sets in our markets.

This is a static electric field rather than field incrt which produced by magnetic field.

They have different analysis way. one is straight on for an electron, antoher is rotation forward under Lorentz force.

if the set is a regulation plain, neednt calulate, if not, the electric field will be complex, many software now can be supplied, such ansys, and consmec or matlab etc.

I can only give out suggestion, I cannt use most of them.

Basically, as cnpower said, most of FEA softwares would do it for you with theyr electo-magnetic libraries. Although I cannot use them for it too (have used for structural and thermal loads only...)
