Pneumatic and Mechanical Clamping Cylinders

Look at Mcmaster-Carr...they have a good selection of pneumatic clamps

Any of the cylinders can be made to mechanically clamp. Insertion of a compression spring internally to apply the clamping force. Just as a single act cylinder uses spring return the spring can be place on the other side of the swab to force the rod out.

Not exactly in many clamping fixtures the clamping is eccentric which loads the rod+piston with a side load and not all are designed for it.
