Thinking about it I thought you may mean 'Engineering practice Building area measurement'?
I know this is just a shorter version of what you typed, but the detail is crucial as, I cannot read your mind, but am doing searches based on what I think you mean.
Anyway, this first site looks like it will explain all you need to know on measurement, that is measuring areas and buildings. And the standard used to measure by.
I do not know where you are working from, and this may make a difference. In Europe and the UK we use Metric measures. In the US they use feet and inches for the most part. Though some areas may come under ISO or (AISI) American Iron and Steel Industry. I think this site details that. It has a lot of different pages so you may need to visit other pages other than the 'Home' page.
If you actually meant 'Civil Engineering, then please confirm this in your reply.
I hope this is helpful. Ask anything else if you need to.
There is in addition to this, different systems for the measurement of Offices. Just so as you know.
This chapter provides the technical definitions, measurement procedures, and coding structures for building area data elements. The interrelationships between the components of building area are illustrated by the conceptual framework in figure 3-1. Definitions of what constitutes a building are found in chapter 2. The technical definitions and codes for the space use categories are found in chapter 4. An understanding of the FICM system begins with an overview of measurement terms
