Corrosion Resistant Threaded Rods

10/17/2006 9:41 AM

We would like to use corrosion resistant steel full threaded rods for pipe supports.

Electrogalvanised is not suffiencient due to high humidity in the area.

Hot dipped galvanised is not possible due to threading at site which will give out zinc coating.

Do you any alternative coating which we can use on these threaded rods?

Stainless steel should be available as threaded rod - 304 grade may corrode but 316 grade should be ok.

Look at www.glubak.com

This will render even rebar rustproof --even in a corrosive environment.

It is cheaper and easier than epoxy coating.

We have used wheatering steel in power transmision towers and power stations switchyards in a salty and wet enviroment at the Panama Canal. If you send me an e-mail I may send you a copy of STRUCTURAL STEEL SUPERSTRUCTURES.pdf.

my mail llizarraga@pancanal.com

This document has a lot a valuable information that you may use for choosing your threaded rod material. Good luck

Absolutely, We have used that aproach several times and even covering the steel parts with grease works great, but as always, you have to design your application acordingly with your enviroment and tech. specs. Regards
