How is it that you are placed in a position to select valves for oilfield equipment?

I, personally do not think that this forum should be asked this type of question. If you are required to make the selection, you should have a thorough knowledge of valves, types, materials available, etc..............if you do not have this knowledge, let someone do the job that is an expert..............otherwise lives could be at stake, if incorrect valves are used!

Mobi is so correct in his reply, you need engineers there are so many scenarios to deal with, pressures, media, where in the processdo you need the valves,it all differs, this is not the place you need answers, consult an engineering company with the knowledge for your types of applications,PERIOD.

shelkeaashish,

The other persons replying to your question make a valid point, however, as an oilfield equipment manufacturer we receive requests on a daily basis from prospective customers that are apparently new to the oil field.

That being said, you need to determine the following information & submit it to valve manufacturers:

1. Maximum "shut-in pressure" of the well.

2. End connections: Give API flange size (the size in inches and also the API pressure rating, such as "3.12" 3000 API"). Or if valve has threaded connections - the LP inch pipe size or API tubing/casing thread size if this is a threaded "master valve".

3. Maximum & Minimum operating temperatures (Typically this is Max. temp of the fluid & minimum ambient - unless pure CO2 is being conducted through the valve.

4. Required bore size: Full port (valve bore = connected pipe bore , standard port (valve bore is one pipe size smaller, or reduced port (valve bore is 2 pipe sizes smaller than the connected pipe). If this is a "Master Valve" (mounted vertically on the well tree) it will have to be full-port.

5. An analysis of the fluid media showing % of corrosive media - especially H2S & CO2, plus % of any aromatic hydrocarbons.

You can find most of the oilfield valve manufacturers by going to www.awhem.org & clicking on "U.S. Committe Roster". In the interest of being unbiased, I am not mentioning which company on that list I work for. You can also try www.kfvalves.com

I hope the above proves to be helpful.

As a matter of fact bentarrow,I met the guys at KF Valves at the Power-Gen show in Orlando today.I'm also located in OK.Point there are much to many factors and questions and answers taht need to be brought up that can't be answered in your posted email,go to the end user find out there requirements, seek out an enginerring firm and do not seek answers on tis forum. The responses are extremely helpful but we are not involved in the day to day correspondence that needs to be taken into consideration,do not cut corners or it will come back to bite you.
