Span Measurement of spur gear

11/26/2008 1:05 AM

I have spur gear of 108 teeth & module 8 whose span measurement(width over teeth dimension) has come 0.3 mm minus than specified tolerance. I want to know how it will affect on gear in terms of BACKLASH,CENTER DISTANCE & MATING GEAR 22 TEETH.

Do I require to add some corrections in mating gear ? Are there any formulae/references to alter existing dimensions?

It would be great to modify dimensions with a simple formula but this can only happen if one is a wizard! Imagine no more scrap, zero defect, a wonderful world!

Never the less it is possible to consider this result as a negative profile shift and cut the other gear with a slight positive profile correction and reduce the clearance if this is too important for the function of the gear pair to the designed value. All depends on rpm and load. The profile shift has to be so that the distance between centers will be maintained.
