Handy for converting 00001, 00010, 00100 etc. to 1,2,3 etc.

Why didn't you reply on your previous thread?

One application I have used shift for was when filling a series of tanks, one at a time in a predefined order. I used a bit to keep track of the active tank. When the time was up for filling that tank I shifted the bit which activated the next tank.

I often use these instructions for programming packaging and inspection machines. As a part is indexed down a line, it's position is tracked, and pass/fail status is set at inspection positions.
