11/26/2008 8:22 AM

Dear All,

I am fabricationg a test bench for the valve testing and spools testing form 1" to 24" and upto 2500# with all types of the valves with all types of the flanges.

If some one have a good idea for this test bench design, please let me know to complete my project sucessfully.

regards to all (JAFF)

There are many examples available on the internet to look at for your "general design".

I am currently designing a rather extensive test bench for pumps/motors, and have found that the best way to design any test bench is to have the full cooperation and support of the people who will be using the bench (you must earn their blessing). It's easy to run something through engineering, and design something based from an engineering standpoint, but where the functionality really comes to life is through the complaints and suggestions of the people that have to use the equipment on a daily basis. So get with your tech team and ask them what they would like to see, and have them work with you for a rough design for the layout. It will make your job much easier if you know that your design directly compliments those who will spend the most time with it. but when you have reached a point of "having a rough design" have those who worked with you to come to that point put their signiture on the drawing, it will releave some of your stress to know that when they complain about something in the design, you can point out that they approved it. Its something that needs to be designed by those who use it. you as an engineer should turn yourself into a brush, and let the end user be the painter (within reason).

By using this approach, i have found that people are much more accepting, and appriciative, by simply being in the loop. And more often than not, the end product will have much more appeal.

You sir are a blessing! This is one of the most important things that I know of that a engineer can learn. Why do so few know it.

I base this statement on a lifetime spent correcting, putting out the fires, repairing the damage, being injured, and pulling out the mangled remains of people. All caused by engineers who just knew that all that they needed to know was in their own mind. The rest of the world pays for the mistakes of these engineers.

Now.This does not just apply to engineers. All others with the same mind set do the same damage to all.I have often seen it in mechanics such as me to mothers and fathers with their children in my 63 years. No group or individual is immune.Alfred

I've designed some test benchs, including for valve test. The difference being lower pressures with high flows.

Asking people who is going to use the bench is by far the better approach. The rest is up to you. Adjustable lenght between flanges, a set of flange reductions and adapters according to valve size, data acquisition, automatic or manual control, those are choices that you 're going to make depending on your cost target and market.

Having used test equipment for 40 years,I have one major suggestion.Use liquid when ever possible and the minimum amount of gas or air when ever possible each time.I am talking about volume as well as pressure. This way, when you have failures,it will release the least amount of energy each time.Liquid with all of the air bled off is the safest that I know of when failure comes around.AND failure will sooner or later!Alfred
