How to Test Vacuum Pumps

Can anybody indicate the procedure for testing of vaccum pumps though the pump manufacturers may have their own procedures.

1. what do you want to test?

lifting capacity ?

2.how is the pump used?

Is it a lifting application eg plate glass

bulk drygoods removal

moving bags

3. what type of vacumn pump is it?

A vacumn generator using air

Pump attached to electric motor

Pump run from batteries?

I do believe that there are meters for doing that. I say I believe because it has been quite sometimes since I had to determine the level of vacuum in a Large Scale Electron Tube which I would repeatedly evacuate - for each test run of the experiment - using a vacuum pump. I think I used a meter by Alca [tel (?)] of France.
