Hello shripathi.pb:,

I would say there is no 'best' in cement. And do you mean 'cement' or concrete, which is cement, water, aggregate, and sand?

You choose different cement types for different uses. I have only ever used OPC. But you can get an experts opinion if you click on this link, you can put your question to

Cement is basically De hydrated lime stone , So when we add water in it the cement will immediately rehydrate , so to delay this process silicates in form of Brick bates , or bauxite , or iron slag is added in it . Normally now a days you have various types of cement for various purposes , like rapid hardening cement , cement for underwater projects , special cements for chemical plants , etc, but the basic and main ingrediant is De hydrated lime stone . There two types of cement commonly available for general construction they are Ordinary Portland cement Portland cement, which is made primarily from limestone, certain clay minerals, and gypsum in a high temperature process that drives off carbon dioxide and chemically combines the primary ingredients into new compounds. And Portland Pozzolan Cement includes fly ash cement, since fly ash is a pozzolan, but also includes cements made from other natural or artificial pozzolans.A pozzolans is a material which, when combined with calcium hydroxide, exhibits cementitious properties. Pozzolans are commonly used as an addition (the technical term is "cement extender") to Portland cement concrete mixtures to increase the long-term strength and other material properties of Portland cement concrete, and in some cases reduce the material cost of concrete. The ultimate strength after about twentyeight days is more of Pozolona cement than the portland cement . If you are in india and want to construct your home please always use cement manufactured by Big cement plants like Tata , Ambuja , UltrTech , Sangi , Etc Not ever use cement manufactured by Mini cement plants as they are not following standard . Hello Anand:

I was on earlier and said this OP should get in touch with the thread and the person on it because she ran a concrete works.

Anyhow, I have read you post and I think the last line was important bearing in mind the situation. The explanation may have been a little technical for the OP but, you did a good job!

A GA is on its way!.

Take care...............

Hello Anand:

I know what you mean but, you are coming close to insulting the OP.

I am in the UK mostly, for a lot of the time and "common" is an open insult.

By the way, we are all common! We are all equal when born my friend. Some are, perhaps a 'little more equal' than others?

Take care..............

Hello Anand:

No problems and I knew what you meant. But, it would have been kinder to be more specific in trying to explain the use of common in your first post.

I am pretty sure no one was offended, but, the phrasing could have been more polite and less general, thats all.

I mean no insult to you either my friend, OK?

Take care..............

I have never heard that witch makes the best cement. Can you get them to run the plant or do you have to knock them of their brooms into the mixer?

Sorry, I could not resist.

By the way, I sent a GA for the Anand's comment also.

FYI, almost every civil engineer typically specifies that the cement for structural concrete contain no fly ash. Ordinary Portland Cement has a more predictable consistent behavior. FYI, Cement is not dehydrated limestone, quicklime is dehydrate limestone. PC is a recombination at very high temperatures of silicates with aluminum and calcium, which are in a dehydrated form.

OPC - Ordinary Portland Cement.

OPC provides high strength and durability to structures because of its optimum particle size distribution, superior crystalline structure and balanced phase composition, IMPORTANT - FLY ASH COULD BE MIXED TO REDUCE THE COST AND REQUIRED STRENGTH COULD BE ACHIEVED.

Opinion - PPC - cement - better to be used for non-structure and under ground work.

PPC - Portland Pozzolana Cement.

This is a special blended cement, produced by inter-grinding higher strength Ordinary Portland Cement clinker with high quality processed fly ash - based on norms set by the company's R&D division. This unique, value-added product has hydraulic binding properties not found in ordinary cements.

Opinion - OPC - cement - better to be used for structure & above ground work.
