Project Manager

I'm offered RCA without fines at $18 / yd in one place and $18/ ton in another.

Which is the better deal?

All the conversions I'm seeing are conflicting.

Can you spell out RCA, please?

The list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA_(disambiguation) doesn't seem to have anything which could be sold by weight or volume.

"Re-Constituted Aggregate" - it's crushed concrete and brick

Often referred to as "RCA Blend" in this case it has no fines, sometimes referred to as "Recycled Stone"

Generally, a cubic foot of dry, loose gravel with 1/4" to 2" stones is 105 pounds per cubic foot (I've seen this rule-of-thumb used in several places). So, a cubic yard is 27 times that, or 2835 lb. per cubic yard (There are 27 cubic feet in a cubic yard.)

That's 1.4175 tons/CY. The rule-of-thumb is a factor of 1.4.

If you buy a yard at $18 you're getting a better deal - a ton at $18 would be less material for your money.

You are going to get about 0.55 to 0.6 yd3 of Recycled Aggregate for every ton. So the $18 per yd3 is the best price, as it would be about $11 per ton.
