Polarized Connector

12/03/2008 8:57 AM

I have been looking all over for a simple connector, that all of you have seen a thousand times

I had some sent to us for a solar panel project, and they worked great to interconnect the panels. But I just can not seem to find any that are like them. I can find all sorts of light duty ones. 16ga etc.

The ones I got and now need are like 2 feet or so in length,, and HEAVY wire. 14 Min 12 preferable.

Obviously they were made, because I have 4 sets of them in use now. But online all I can find is short length and light ga wire versions.

Actually any type of cheap polarized connector semi weather resistant will work.

suggestions?

Thanks

I can't vouch for the source (and I'm looking for a better one) but here's a place that at least carries some 12 gauge ones:

Drone 601

(who's lost his password, apparently)

Hello NSS, I found thes that look the same or very similar with male and female mic' jack type plug and socket.

Still looking have only just started. Don't panic!

Take care..........

MMJ-HCB Hyper Connector 3set

MMJ-HC Hyper Connector Set

New Hyper Connector Series are ideal for 7.2V battery pack. The Gold plated connector jacks are 4mm Euro Connectors and when inserted into the red molded housing, prevent from short circuit and reverse correction. Simply pass the wire through the red housing then solder it to the male/female connectors, then push the connectors to the housing until you hear a 'click' sound.

Take heed!

These connectors can not be plugged or unplugged under power. Although they can not be reversed polarity wise, on a trial, they will make contact.

Hello wangito:

These connectors can not be plugged or unplugged under power.

So they are like any other loose wire connector and, NOT like a plug?

Because for the applications I have seen mentioned they will likely be joined.......for life?

But, you make a very good point.

How about the heavy battery connectors used on race cars & breakdown vehicles, they take up to 50A & 20mm² conductors.

These are often found in auto parts type stores. (Auto Zone /Advanced / NAPA). I don't know what they are specifically intended for, I think for lights on trailers. I used them on my racing Mustang for quick parts removal. (coil / MSD ignition box) You can find them in additional pole configurations also.

Hello NSS,

The wire gauge is:

Polarized Connector

Part# 11884 | Mfr. Sea-Dog | Mfr# 426880
  • Injection molded PVC
  • 16ga wire

Cannot say the length, this type of connector comes in about 6 different sizes with different poles. I don't know if you want to order a pair, or thousand for a product you make. But either way I think a short request to the 'Sea-Dog' seller would find the answer?

Take care...........

Interconnections between solar panels, that are sometimes in series, and sometimes in parallel.

In sreies, 350 watts at 5 amps

Parralel could be at 15 amps. or even 20 but thats the main line, these are inter panel connections, 87 watts 5 to 6 amps.

Maybe they were custom made for a specific purpose. Often, I need to order the connectors and the cables separately and solder or crimp them myself. I generally can find anything I need from Allied, Newark, Mouser or Graybar. Sorry I do not have the time to look these up in more detail for you.
