Butyl Adhesive Handling

12/04/2008 2:11 PM

Does any one know of a glove, or material that can be used on gloves for handling butyl adhesive sheets in a work environment? So far, the only things we have found are; soaked polyester work gloves(unacceptable for the the worker and the work space) and nitrile gloves sprayed with PTFE(only good for about 3 "contacts" before reapplication is required). Thank you for any advice and suggestions!

Hi

there is a Teflon coated fabric available for homebuilt astronomical telescopes - the sliding bearings in Dobson type scopes use this.

Maybe you can coat your gloves with this or make gloves from it?

I know a German supplyer. In the US there is an established community of hobby astronomers so I am sure you can get this material.

Hello mdevriese

http://safety.biology.ed.ac.uk/Health&Safetydocs/SBG04_Glove%20selection%20guidev4March2006.doc

I have found this site which goes into detail about what glove should be worn when using a particular chemical. Please go the site and check it out right to the last list. Then tell me if it is a help.

Do you join the sheets/edges of butyl, with butyl adhesive? I am not sure what you want.

Take care

mdevriese: Really Butyl is not the problem-------You have not explained the real problem--- What is the solvent in that butyl adhesive? ------Simple polyethylene or polypropylene gloves will do the job for most solvents and Butyl Adhesive-----------
