What is Sodium Tridecylbenzene Sulfonate?

12/05/2008 2:16 PM

This chemical is listed as a wetting agent to help etch metal surfaces in metallography. I am having problems finding a lab quantity source for this in the US. Is it available, have a more common name or been replaced by another product? Any help is appreciated.

This is an anionic surfactant commonly used in the chemical industry in emulsion polymerization. Rhodia makes it and sells it under the trade name of DS-4, I believe. Their web site is www.rhodia-hpcii.com .
