copper coating

12/06/2008 6:16 AM

Hello every one,

I need to know how mild steel AISI 1008 can be cleaned , pickling before copper coated.I use sulfuric acid @ 15 % concentration , then coppering by using copper sulfate acidic solution, but the colour is not shiny.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks and best regards.

Wouldnt expect it to be shiny by just dip in solution of copper sulfate. just copper color, matte finish.

Watch Fe content in pickle bath, if it loads up it will lose effectiveness.

electroplating will give you a heavier coating, but again not "shiny"

does your coating stick to steel if you try to buff it?

Bright acid copper plating processes do exist. Call your local plating supplies company. You will need to have a smooth surface to begin with.
