Turbocad Misdemeanours

12/06/2008 5:42 AM

Does anyone on CR4 use Turbocad? (specifically turbocad 6). I have a strange problem which I cannot see the answer to.

I have recently changed computers and OS from XP to Vista. I have moved all my old project drawings to the new machine, and have no problems with most. However one drawing that I am currently working on exhibits a very strange phenomenon. An example would be after a drag 'n drop operation the cursor drops to the bottom left corner of my screen.

While this is strange, what I find stranger is that other drawings behave normally, even when opened in the same session, that is both drawings on screen at the same time. Now if I copy the "bad" drawing and paste it into the Good drawing then that too exhibits the same fault. Select the "Bad" drawing and cut it out and the remainder reverts to normal operation. If I send the drawing back to my old machine then it too reverts to normal behaviour.

Help please as I am mad, but this is exacerbating the symptoms.

Regards

Chas

I think that you are expecting far too much from version 6 and Vista.

A quick search on the Internet suggests that Turbocad is now at version 11, so I would not expect version 6 to be Vista compatible as it is probably far older than Vista is.

Remember, anyone using Vista has to accept that it is an "ASS" of an OS, that rumour has it will be dropped by Microsoft for Windows 7 in a very short space of time. eg. leave it to die in peace on its own!!!

It is known to be VERY fussy with programming and has caused many PCs to die, many programs simply do not work. Vista updates have been known to cause PCs to simply die in their tracks!!!! Maybe that is an improvement!!!

So if you need Turbocad and Vista, go and buy the latest version and make sure that it is sold as being Vista compatible, or even better, dump Vista completely and install WinXP Pro (not home!) with all its updates, I am sure then that TurboCAD version 6 will work just fine......

Chas

I would have to agree with Andy, but the current release is actually version 15.

One other thought would be go to the Turbocad support forum, which you have to sign up for to participate in, but it is one of the best support site for Turbocad users and many of the gurus there have been using it since before version 6. I'm not sure if the attached link will take you to the support site. if it doesn't work just type in Turbocad forum and you will find it.

Paul

Nice one, thanks.

This makes TurboCAD 6 even less likely to work with Vista, it needs maybe Win98 or MSDOS!!!

Thanks guys,

I did realise I'm working with a version that's 5 or 6 years old and that it has been superseded. If the program wouldn't run at all I would understand it but the strange way it has only seemed to affect one drawing, and at that, only this one silly feature that the cursor zips off after certain operations.

Regards

Chas

Accept that as I cannot believe that it will be simple to make it work any better....be thankful that ANYTHING works......

Actually, I'm not, but ANYTHING that runs on a Windows machine is made redundant as quickly as possible, to generate sales of the updated version.

Good programming still works, I have a PCB CAD program I bought in the AT286 days, that runs still on almost any machine I have in a DOS box, where that is still possible. It has a very early VGA driver that works well......Eagle is the name!!

On my latest PC and Laptop I must admit I haven't tried it, it sits on an old Toshiba Laptop for when I need it!! It runs like lightning on a 486!!!

I have to agree with your comments on windows. I bought a machine with Linux in an attempt to wean myself off of the mighty W but to no avail. Other stuff i need to run on the machine will only run under windows so i remain, irritadedly, hooked.

regards
