Arc Chute in Contactor

12/11/2008 1:00 AM

Hi

We have seen some modular type Contactors which is used for Buiilding Segment. In that the Arc chute is not available, even for 63A rating also. But in Power contactors low current rating also the arc chute is available.

According to my understanding, its due to the Short circuit current in building Segment will be of the order of 5KA. but in industrial sector the SC current rating will be more than 10KA.

Can some one provide me the correct reason for this ??

Not required by the code for that application.
