Stainless Steel Tubes with Outside Threads

12/15/2008 11:24 AM

Hello all,

I am looking for a source for Stainless Steel tube that has threads on the OUTSIDE.

Not sure on the size but its in the 1/4-20 area. (Its probably the metric equivalent from just eyeballing this)

I have googled and googled and found nothing so far. So maybe if you know of a company that sells this OR if you can come up with a OTS product that uses this OR give me some "creative" search terms I would be greatly appreciative.

thanks again all you CR4'er! Your all the best!

Is it tubing or pipe? 1/16" pipe come close to dimension you describe at .312 OD 27 thread pitch. Whats the application?

I would think that you are dealing with a pipe thread.

We could likey supply you with what you need, or any other custom made metal / stainless part and some plastic parts. what is the quantity you require, and will you supply the tubes?

As an alternative, you can likely purchase a NPT (National Pipe Taper) threading die and holder at a special cutting tool supplier. First determine what the thread you have is exactly, the tool supplier may be able to help, google for these suppliers and you will likely get more help.

If you need further assistance, don`t hesitate to ask.

Thank you all for the responses.

I am still waiting for one of the other engineers here to come back from our other location so he can tell me for sure the thread information, length, etc...

The application is we are making a sensor that screws into a mounting bracket. We use a Hamlin sensor now. But frankly the failure rate has been much higher then we like. Also, its a mechanical sensor and we would like to move to a Hall type.

I will post again after the holidays. We just found out that we are closing for two weeks for Christmas (starting tommorow..no pay of course..Merry Christmas huh?)

Anyway, I will get back with after the first of the year.

Bill

Tube is normally measured in OD and pipe in ID.

You will find that tube is normally of a thinner wall than pipe.

The wall thickness of tube is not sufficient for standard NTP or BSP thread.

If you wish to maximize internal diameter and the external OD is ¼ ", you will

have to use a fine thread .

I have threaded tube in the past by using a fine gas thread.
