Fly Ash and Flue Gas Flows

12/17/2008 6:49 AM

We have a large duct in which a mixture of Fly ash and flue gas flows. At low loads the amount of gas volume is low and lot of ash is settled in the duct. What should be the minimum velocity of gas so that ash remains entrained in gas and not settle.

Thankyou,

The boiler is coal fired with about 40 % Ash. We happen to be the manufacturer of the boiler.

Then you must be manufacturing under a franchise license with the main manufacturer who has designed it . Are you not? Suggest you ask your Principals for without going through all the drawings it is not viable for anybody to comment.Look up B&W books to help you out.

In the event that you also have vapours of various chemicals in the flue gas, the calculation will also be temperature dependent. So you really have to get hold of the original designer or contract a consultant for the service. There are just too many unknowns to work with, based on your post.
