Lead (Pb) is very easy to thread on a lathe, although the work is probably hazardous to the lathe operator unless he knows what he's doing. Ordinary taps and dies don't work well unless you first chill the lead enough to oversome some of the "gumminess"; you can alternatively coldwork the lead by hammering to provide enough rigidity for threading.

However, once you've done that, the work was completely wasted since you can't make a decent threaded joint with lead. The threads have little accuracy and coldflow during assembly.

But mainly, this kind of work is extremely hazardous for the novice.

If you must do something like this, consider threaded inserts.

If you are thinking about pins with Pb threads, such as those used for pintype insulators, those threads are generall molded.

Threaded lead pipe was common around the turn of the century for potable water.
