Bondy, not sure what you are asking, exactly. Are you wanting to upgrade your current card for better performance? The most important first question is what type of interface you computer has for the graphics card. The most common these days for a performance system is PCI-E, or PCI-Express. If you system is a little older, it might have an AGP card slot. Once you determine which interface you need, then it's a matter of buying the card that has the features/performance that you desire, there are no hard requirements other than the interface type. Please elaborate if you still have questions.

It looks like you computer is far from new. tdesmit is correct, you have to get one that's going to fit.

The big question is what do you use your computer for? Unless your a gamer, or run graphic intensive programs, a modest card will serve you just fine.

Is it the same connectors as the ones that you use for a wireless network card, if so it is PCI.

It appears that you have a bottle neck with your bus speed. Best thing to do if you want any kind of performance with video is to buy a newer cpu and then put in a video card.

It is a common misconception that adding a video card/more ram/better processor will do the trick for performance if your board is slow.

Sorry typo. Meant to write "buy a newer computer and then put in a video card."

Newer boards have well over 1GHz bus speed these days.

Check this one out.

So you're telling me that upgrading my sound and graphics cards to about 256mb will do nothing to stop my music stuttering in media player when playing internet games?

Buffering is in windows media configuration; it is the percentage the player will download before display occurs. With 3mbps 5% should be sufficient to ensure the player stays ahead of the gamer, but experiment with it a slow card may necessitate a 10% or greater buffer. Meaning you may experience a short delay before game commences.

Ok, but from what you are saying, I think I have given you the impression that I am streaming music, which i'm not, the music is off the hdd, whilst the game is one which once it's loaded, doesn't need to load anything else.

I suppose it were the Internet games description that threw me off.

What game is it or have you checked system requirements of the game?

The reality is you'll need a more powerful computer to have satisfiing gaming experiences.

go to start / right click my computer / properties / device manager

are any red or yellow flags or alert type flags showing

find sound or media devices in list / expand / right clk your sound device / properties / driver / update -- connect to Internet if necessary.

scroll on list to processor / expand / right clk / properties / update driver

Check phoenix tech for BIOS update

if trouble persists uninstall windows media player then reinstall fresh.
