motor testing

12/23/2008 9:21 AM

What is the correct voltage I applied for 440V 60Hz motor if my available supply is only 50Hz? Is it lower than 440V? Is the motor operate normally?

440V 50Hz will be satisfactory, though be aware that the motor will be less efficient at 50Hz than 60, and downrate its output power demands accordingly. For one thing, the cooling fan is running 50/60 times as fast as nature intended.....

Hi,

when you run the 440V,60Hz designed motor on 415V, 50Hz, it will run. But its RPM will come down.

Example:

Motor designed for 440V, 60Hz, 2900RPM

If you run at 415V & 50Hz, the motor will run at 2415RPM only

you can check with RPM calculation.

Regards,

Uday

OFCOURSE RPM WILL CHANGE FROM THE FORMULA N=120F/P, THE QUESTION IS HOW IS IT RELATED TO IRON CORE SATURATION? WHEN YOU TEST THE MOTOR TO 415V 50 HZ THE MOTOR FRAME GOT HOT FASTER EVEN WITHOUT LOAD MEANING IT IS DECOUPLED. SO WHAT IS THE EXACT VOLTAGE APPLIED INORDER NOT TO SHOOT UP TEMPERATURE. ONE THING IT IS NOISY WHEN YOU APPLIED 415V THAN 220V AT THE SAME FREQ. 50HZ.
