HELP - Viruses

12/25/2008 2:13 PM

Hi, I got pyagcore on my system a few days ago, and it only disabled messenger and IE7, but now, I can't even access drive c (hard drive). I use spybot, AVG 8 and malwarebytes. None picked anything up, what can I do?

Also, I did a search, and deleted all the pyagcore files.

Hello Bondy:

I personally have had good luck with the spybot search and destroy, (different program then spybot) this is a great free program, so you might try that. If you can't get online with the machine you could also try the Windows live one care safety scan.

You Can Also try using the restore function assuming you're running XP or Vista and see if restoring your computer to a date prior to the infection solves your problem, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

I am unfamiliar with this particular piece of Mal Ware, but many times it becomes necessary to remove some of these in safe mode, so you might try that also.

I also found a link that I haven't investigated yet it may be of some help, good luck and let us know how it's going, hopefully it's not too late for you but maybe your experience will help the next guy.

Hi Bondy,

It this the slow pooter discussed in another thread?

Go to control panel - add/remove windows programs - remove security update kb890830-V2.5.exe

Then go to security center and run windows update; it should replace the deleted 'malicious software removal tool' then run the tool - perform a full scan; this may take several hours.

Windows update should load w/o and active internet connection, this may enable you to www.majorgeeks.com download -- highjackthis free follow directions.

You can call for free security support from MS 1-866-PCSAFETY in the U.S..

Also, pyagcore stopped IE7 from working, and I don't have the msn browser. This means that I cannot perform the windows live test

Take out this old infected C: disc, put it in another computer as removable disc, and before You do anything else, run a virus and malware scan on it.

Copy or burn all your important files from the now uninfected old C: disc to a safe place, wipe the old C: disc with Glary Utilities, format and do a new installation.

This is my recommendation to all slow computer hold-outs whom refuse to buy a new hammer.

Order a Ubuntu disc and install it, replace MS and enjoy the use of your aging machine in and environment it can operate efficiently.

You've already received some good advise that should have you headed in the right direction but if you can't fix it and save your data (virus included) a work around may be in order to stall for time.

Remember there are good "FREE" alternatives to Messenger and IE7 as well as the rest of the Microsoft line of products.

Hi, I followed all the steps on http://www.freepchelp.co.uk/forum/malware-removal-av-firewalls-etc/4227-pyagcore-search-searchdetection.html and IE7 now works, but pyagcore still prevents messenger from working. Any ideas?

How do you know it's Pyagcore that prevents Messenger from working?

Hi, When trying to open messenger from the system tray, it comes up with an error saying pyagcore and no shell on 3rd line (I Think)

Maybe you can re-install or repair Messenger?

I've tried re-installing it about 3 times, thanks for the thought though.

Progress... Now, instead of coming up with an error message, and then closing, it won't open at all.

Following that, I deleted all the pyagcore files, and now when opening messenger from the system tray, the pyagcore pop up just says <NULL>

Go to services and disable messenger, you don't need it.

Thanks for all the help, I looked at the internet, which had lots of help guides, and eventually downloaded unlocker, deleted kiwee and pyagcore system files, and then ran a CCleaner, and now messenger works. Horray!
