hello

if we consider a distribution transformer, how the utility people will decide to connect number of residential consumers to the distribution transformer

For residential loads, the size of a distribution transformer required to serve several houses is determined by totaling the estimated watts demand for each house and multiplying that demand by a diversity factor (to account for variation in peak demand among those houses). That total would then be used to determine the standard transformer kva rating that could adequately serve the estimated load.

is there any standard diversity factor for residential customer?

for a 25kva transformer is the power will be distributed for each phase like 25/3

There are standard diversity factors that are commonly used. In the U.S. for example, they depend upon the number of houses and load characteristics and might range from 1.00 for a single house to 0.67 for 12. Those factors would depend on where you live and your utility practice.

All the homes served by a single phase transformer will be the same phase.

hello

I have to do my degree project on energy consumption of a group of customers and analyse their consumption.so i have to get some data of energy consumption of atleast 10 people.can u please please ..give me a suggestion of how to get that energy consumption data.

otherwise

how to estimate the data like by considering a distribution transformer connected to a group of customers.....

Hi sowji,

Any suggestion will depend on the size of the project. For example the distribution transformer can be for a Multi storied Housing complex with 500 to six hundred, two to three bed room flats. It can be for a large Village with many large independent houses with a marketing complex school community centre , hospital etc. It can be a semi urban independent raw houses . The load calculation, diversity factor , transmission losses, voltage of transmission, loading pattern etc. So first you have to decide and finalise the type of project you select. Then proceed with a design of distribution calculating the load requirement depending on the utilities frequency of use peak load and average load. First you make a draft proposal and then discuss further doubts and improvements. Do not expect others to do your project.Otherwise the very purpose of the project will be defeated if you simply copy some body else's project idea.It should be your own weather it is good or bad.

Great Answer, V.I.Abraham. This project will require much more effort and analysis than the poster has shown thus far.

In addition to the factors you mentioned, Sowji may also need to consider environmental factors (tropic, semitropic, temperate), technology (electric or non-electric heating & cooking, primary lighting is natural or artificial), standard of living (air conditioning, television, elevators). A further complicating factor in some areas can be a predominance of shift workers, which can significantly skew the load profile with abnormal peak times.

hi

Thanks for your suggestion.Actually I am doing project on Automatic meter reading.for that i have to analyse benefits the consumers can get by using AMR than our present conventional energy meter.for that analysation i need to get some consumers data.but its difficult to get the data, i started estimating my own data of some residential consumers.i have to see whether it works or not.

Usually it happens the reverse: given a sector to be supplied with electricity, the rating power of the distribution transformer center is estimated having in consideration the type, number and size of houses or flats, the electrification level, the habits of the inhabitants and a so named coefficient of simultaneity.

The engineers of the utility have these data or should estimate them.

En Europe, and I think also in several areas of the USA, there are "power managing systems" which allow the utility to handle the global power demand of the individual users and to control it in case of overcharge. State regulations are established to cover such managing systems.

One important component of this system is circuit breaker that cuts the individual supply line when the intensity reaches a pre-determined value, during a certain time.

This device must be resettable from the house of the user, accordingly to the European regulations.

I have developed and patented recently such a device, that can be reset from the home of the user without auxiliary wires, by a very simple operation.

It is also designed to perform the function of the power managing system.

Best regards,

Arturo Pérez
