Tooling Epoxy around Wax Model - Supplier Needed

12/30/2008 12:04 AM

Hi All,

I have a customer/client/business partner that is interested in doing 1,000 Action Figures. I imagine that it may be to costly to manufacture the mold out of aluminum. I am to use a wax model to form the epoxy mold. For instance. I have a wax model sculpture of James bond with the gun and wind blown jacket. I would like to create a two peice mold which I can then inject with a resin plastic. i.e. polypropylene/polystyrene. Does anyone know of any suppliers for this. If you would like to see the wax sculpture please feel free to visit my site http://www.backyardengineer.com or more specifically http://www.backyardengineer.com/sandy-sculptures.html for the wax peices I am trying to create molds for.

Thanks a lot,

Kevin Regan

p.s. please feel free to email me: Kevin@backyardengineer.com

Why don't you make some silicone molds & cast urethane resin into the molds to make the reproductions.

These materials are available in NYC at THE COMPLEAT SCULPTOR - 90 Van Dam Street, Manhattan 212-243-6074

Try Belzona 4151 (Magma Resins).

http://www.belzona.com

Make sure the temperatures are good for it.

Good luck!

Hey Kevin R.

I strongly suggest speaking with Mark at Eager Polymers. They are distributors of the Smooth-On (www.smoothon.com) line of products. Their web site is very informative. I will gladly forward you personal contact info for the rep I use.

Again I can not recommend these guys enough.

Best of luck.
