Nava,

First you ask how to set up a dimensional inspection lab (big question) and were given some great advise. Now you ask for a general overview of the investment casting process (bigger question). You do ask good questions and it shows that you've done your homework but it's apparent that you may need to consider assuming the role of Quality Engineer and hire both an experienced Dimensional and Process Engineer to work these VERY complex and daily changing issues under your guidance.

I would not attempt "near net" investment casting without on site expetise in the form of consultants or at least substantial vendor support with the understanding that your scrap rate will be high and customer returns are probable.

yeai have been casting jewelry for 20 years the questions you ask a determined by the size , matereial and weight of you finnished product all combined with the type of equipment you are using ,vacume vs centrifugal, type of investment mold material burnout method ect. as the last guy wrote you need to hire someone experienced to make these decions on a part by part basis. There are some basic guidlines but without experience in spruing, and gate assembly you will have a lot of failure due to improper item placment in the investment.

Contact an investment casting foundry. They are the professionals, and can easily provide info on tolerancing, et al. That stuff is rather straight forward. But you must first decide on an alloy, desired properties, size, design, etc. Have you made a drawing of the part? If so, submit it to a foundry with info such as total quantity, quantity per release, delivery reqts & location, requesting quotation. Suggest you search for your closest foundry & visit in person.
